Glasgow Rangers FC — 55 Titles

Last weekend, one of our Partners, Rangers FC, lifted their 55th Title by winning the Scottish Premiership in record time. 55 top-flight league title wins means they currently have more league title trophies than any other club in world football. Glasgow Rangers FC — record breakers!

It was their first league title in 9 years, and put a stop to the Celtic 10-in-a-row that most pundits were predicting last season and at the start of this. A fantastic turn-around of fortunes by club manager Steven Gerrard, and the congratulations from the footballing and sporting worlds flowed in over the weekend.

Rangers have now won 55 league titles, 60 domestic cups and one European Cup Winners’ Cup; meaning they’ve secured 116 major trophies, the most by any club in Scotland. Celtic are their nearest challengers on 111 trophies, so they’ve some way to go to beat the boys in blue!

It’s been a powerhouse performance from Rangers this season, as thus far they remain unbeaten in the league, and with just six matches remaining this season look unlikely to relinquish that record. Their latest result saw them pick up a 3–0 victory against St. Mirren on Saturday to maintain their 100% home record and set up Sunday’s clinch of their world record 55th title.

Although there’s not long to wait now until we can get back to live sporting events, the wait will seem like an age for the overjoyed Rangers supporters who, after 10 long years of hurt, finally have that record-breaking Premiership win to celebrate.

The fans will be back in the historic Ibrox stadium soon enough, and I doubt anyone would argue with the thought that the noise levels at the first home match of the 2021/22 season are likely to redefine even our recent uses of the word ‘unprecedented’.

In the meantime, basking in the glow of the aftermath of victory that secured the title win on Saturday, several Rangers players could not contain their own excitement and ran into the corner of the ground to greet and share the joy of the fans who had gathered outside the gates. Steven Gerrard himself, meanwhile, also joined in the display of delight from within the Rangers camp and poked his head out of the window of the changing room to gesture to the delighted fans outside.

One final note of interest: Rangers’ first league match as champions will be against Celtic in the Old Firm derby on March 21st. That’s got to go down as a must-see match for sporting fans across the world, not just in Scotland.
